Deputy Director, Training Faculty – Navy (Professional Military Education)

About the role

The Deputy Director (Training Faculty) provides overall leadership for the Professional Military Education (PME) of mid‑level officers in the Singapore Armed Forces and Republic of Singapore Navy. Reporting as Course Director, you will shape the curriculum and delivery of Command and Staff Courses, ensuring officers are prepared for higher command and staff appointments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and schedule course curriculum in line with PME standards, military doctrine, national policies, and the evolving security environment.
• Direct PME initiatives to develop leadership, conceptual thinking, mission planning, innovation, and joint‑service operational competencies.
• Facilitate strategic discussions, war‑games, and operational planning exercises to deepen understanding of campaign design and decision‑making.
• Establish assessment and feedback mechanisms, endorse progress reports, and monitor cohort performance.
• Supervise Principal Directing Staff, ensuring timely coordination and high‑quality teaching.
• Lead professional exchanges with foreign military colleges and local institutions to strengthen partnerships.
• Contribute to curriculum reviews, enrichment programmes, and academic innovation.
• Guide Directing Staff in professional development and instructional methods.

Required profile

• Degree in Defence Studies, Strategic Studies, International Relations, Military History, Public Policy or a related field.
• Graduated from a credible command and staff course.
• Minimum 20 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong competency in campaign planning, joint operations, and emerging domains such as cyber and information warfare.
• Proven experience in course development, adult learning methodologies, instructional design, and outcome‑based education.
• Demonstrated coaching and mentoring abilities for Directing Staff and mid‑level officers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
