Senior Vessel Operator

About the role

Louis Dreyfus Company is seeking an experienced Senior Vessel Operator to manage the operational performance of bulk carriers on time charter. The role combines stakeholder communication, optimisation of vessel plans, and financial oversight to ensure profitable and efficient voyages.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with vessel owners, masters, charterers, trading teams and other relevant parties.
• Optimise stowage plans to maximise cargo efficiency.
• Coordinate bunkering activities with the bunker desk to manage fuel planning.
• Analyse voyage profit & loss and support commercial decision‑making.
• Resolve claims in collaboration with the legal team.
• Maintain external relationships with customers and vendors.
• Foster positive relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Mentor less experienced team members and contribute to process improvements.
• Support the commercial team on operational matters.

Required profile

• University degree in Shipping or a related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience operating bulkers on time charter.
• Sea experience or background with shipowners is an advantage.
• Fluency in English.
• Strong sense of ownership, teamwork and ability to work under tight deadlines.
