AS400 Support Engineer – 24/7 Operations

About the role

We are looking for an AS400 Support Engineer to monitor and operate IBM i (AS400) systems in a 24/7 environment. The role ensures system performance, availability, and timely execution of batch jobs while collaborating with application, infrastructure, and support teams.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate IBM i (AS400) platforms to maintain optimal performance and availability.
• Execute, monitor, and troubleshoot batch jobs and automated schedules using scheduling tools.
• Ensure jobs meet defined SLAs and promptly escalate any deviations.
• Perform daily operational tasks such as system checks, backup verification, and job restarts.
• Respond to system alerts, incidents, and operational issues according to SOPs.
• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and support teams during incidents or maintenance activities.
• Maintain and update operational documentation, run‑books, and shift handover reports.
• Support planned system maintenance, upgrades, and disaster‑recovery activities.
• Follow security, compliance, and change‑management procedures.
• Provide shift coverage as required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required profile

• Basic understanding of batch processing, job dependencies, and scheduling calendars.
• Working knowledge of IBM i / AS400 environment (job queues, subsystems, basic commands).
• Experience with job‑scheduling tools such as Rocket‑Zena, Control‑M, or CA Workload Automation.
• Familiarity with incident management and escalation procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Willingness to work shifts and handle time‑critical operations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.
