Research Associate – Teacher Identity and Resilience Study

About the role

The National Institute of Education seeks a Research Associate for a 19‑month fixed‑term project within the Director’s Office. The study explores how teacher identity formation and exploration can enhance resilience and efficacy among pre‑service teachers preparing to teach Character and Citizenship Education in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in literature review, instrument development, and ethics documentation (IRB preparation).
• Support data collection and management, including survey administration, transcription, data entry, and cleaning.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses under supervision, such as thematic coding and growth mixture modelling.
• Contribute to research reports, journal manuscripts, and conference materials.
• Coordinate communication with project stakeholders, including NIE and MOE partners.
• Provide administrative support for meetings, dissemination activities, and project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with Honours (2nd Upper or above) in Education, Psychology or Social Sciences; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Self‑motivated, responsible, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and openness to interdisciplinary learning across teacher education, psychology, and CCE.

Required skills

• Competence in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
• Experience with survey administration, data cleaning, and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS, R or Mplus.
• Familiarity with qualitative coding tools, notably NVivo.
• Excellent academic writing and ability to synthesize literature and data into clear reports.
