Senior Managing Counsel – Privacy & Data Protection

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Managing Counsel to lead its Privacy & Data Protection efforts across the Asia Pacific region. You will shape strategy, guide compliance, and embed privacy by design into the company’s products and services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to senior executives on emerging privacy and data protection laws.
• Monitor, analyse, and report on new regulations, highlighting business impacts.
• Lead implementation of Privacy by Design across the AP region, ensuring product and service compliance.
• Support privacy aspects of strategic projects and initiatives.
• Engage with policymakers and stakeholders on relevant legislative developments.
• Identify compliance requirements from evolving laws and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Negotiate contracts from a data‑privacy perspective.
• Assist with incident management and response.
• Educate internal teams on privacy and data‑protection obligations.
• Provide vision, leadership, and management to a regional team of privacy professionals.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a senior legal counsel in privacy, data protection, or related fields.
• Deep knowledge of privacy and data‑protection laws in the Asia Pacific region.
• Proven ability to advise senior leadership and influence business decisions.
• Leadership experience managing a team of privacy professionals.
