Commis Cook – Akira Back

About the role

The Commis Cook will support the culinary team at Akira Back, delivering high‑quality dishes and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. This role focuses on preparing meals, maintaining food safety standards, and assisting with daily kitchen activities in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals and substitute items according to recipes, presentation and quality standards.
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters to ensure proper cooking.
• Pull food from freezer storage, thaw in refrigeration, and manage portioning, arrangement and garnish.
• Maintain food logs, monitor food quality and quantity, and communicate needs during busy periods.
• Inform the Chef of excess items for daily specials and update service staff on menu specials and out‑of‑stock items.
• Assist with cold‑food preparation and ensure all dishes meet the established checklist.
• Follow company safety, security and hygiene policies, reporting any incidents or maintenance needs.
• Support the team by maintaining a professional appearance, confidentiality and a positive working relationship.

Required profile

• Technical, trade or vocational school degree in culinary arts or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant kitchen experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift and carry objects up to 25 lb for extended periods.
