Naval Architect – Salvage Operations

About the role

SMIT Salvage is looking for a Naval Architect to provide independent naval architectural support for salvage and wreck removal projects. You will work on projects from the tender stage through preparation and execution, often travelling to the site of a distressed vessel.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical feasibility calculations for salvage projects during the tender phase, considering client requirements, available equipment, and local regulations.
• Collect data and perform complex technical calculations using modelling software to assess vessel condition, environmental factors, and salvage options.
• Develop technical solutions for project‑specific challenges such as damage repair, towing connections, lifting and pulling plans.
• Create and refine computational methods for salvage and wreck removal operations.
• Explain technical aspects of projects to clients, experts, and authorities.
• Guide and assess subcontractors during preparation and execution of the naval architecture portion of a project.
• Contribute to the development of new salvage equipment and knowledge to improve efficiency and innovation.

Required profile

• Background in shipbuilding with experience as a designer, engineer, or constructor.
• Practical, hands‑on attitude and willingness to work internationally.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on‑site.

Required skills

• Technical calculation and feasibility analysis for marine salvage.
