Research Engineer – Ammonia Engine Design & 3D Modeling

About the role

The Centre for Hydrogen and Carbon Innovations is seeking two highly motivated Research Engineers to contribute to the Next Generation Ammonia Engine project. You will be responsible for detailed 3D design work, engine performance simulation, and the creation of visual concepts for both the engine and its laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Produce 3D drawings of ammonia engine components such as pistons, manifolds, plenum, heat exchanger, mixer and EGR system.
• Design and model the layout of the advanced engine laboratory and the overall ammonia engine system.
• Evaluate engine performance using CONVERGE simulation, focusing on geometry modelling and preprocessing.
• Create visual illustrations of new engine concepts for presentations and publications.
• Collect, process and manage research data generated by the project.
• Design, develop and maintain the research group’s website.
• Coordinate with external contractors and collaborators on project‑related tasks.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering Design, Environment Design, Energy & Power Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant work experience or hands‑on engine experimentation.
• Strong creative ability for data visualisation and concept illustration.
• Experience managing engine laboratory or interior design projects, including infrastructure renovation.
• Proven problem‑solving skills and ability to work both independently and within a team.
• Portfolio demonstrating relevant design, drawing and illustration work.
