Senior Associate / Associate (Tax Strategy Unit)

About the role

IRAS is looking for a tax professional to join its Tax Strategy Unit within the Tax Policy Directorate. The role applies tax knowledge, resourcefulness and strong communication skills to a range of tax services including service, compliance and policy formulation. Successful hires are posted to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for 3 years initially, then return to IRAS, where they continue to receive training and milestone programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Drive studies that monitor the overall equity, sustainability and resilience of the tax system
• Analyse economic and social trends and changes in tax legislation or policies of other countries that affect Singapore's tax strategy
• Take part in project teams running tax analytics studies to deepen understanding of Singapore's tax policies
• Contribute to developing Singapore's Medium-Term Tax Strategy, which sets out the key strategic themes for tax policy formulation

Required profile

• Background in tax or policy work
• Degree in Economics, Business and/or an interdisciplinary field
• Keen interest in and passion for public policy work, especially tax policy
• Strong analytical ability, with excellent writing, numerical (data analytics) and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to engage internal and external stakeholders
