Assistant Manager, Health & Safety (Medical School)

About the role

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is looking for an Assistant Manager, Health & Safety to support the H&S team lead and strengthen safety culture within the School. The role influences stakeholders such as the H&S committee and safety representatives to meet team objectives. It is based at the Experimental Medicine Building (EMB) and requires regular commuting to the Novena campus.

Key responsibilities

• Support the H&S branch lead in implementing safety programmes and monitoring their effectiveness, and conduct safety briefings for new staff and students on research projects
• Organise quarterly safety representative meetings and provide secretariat support for the H&S committee
• Implement the Safety Management System, conduct periodic inspections and audits, investigate incidents and accidents and track follow-up actions
• Develop emergency response plans and organise drills for scenarios such as fire and chemical spills
• Maintain records of risk assessments, training, legal documentation and processes, and help with regulatory compliance and laboratory audits
• Conduct monthly inspections, annual internal SMS audits and permit application audits, and prepare corrective measures
• Manage chemical and biological inventories, MSDS files and emergency supplies, and administer the Safety Awards
• Prepare, track and monitor the department budget and procurement of H&S supplies, and act as liaison for staff at EMB

Required profile

• Tertiary education qualification
• At least 3 years of research or safety management experience in a biomedical laboratory
• Knowledge of local safety regulations and guidelines for research and laboratory activities in a medical school
• Strong written and verbal communication, leadership and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently under tight deadlines
