Associate Principal Software Architect

About the role

We are seeking an Associate Principal Software Architect to lead the design and optimisation of embedded software for connected electronic products. You will define robust BLE/Wi‑Fi integration, guide Joint Development Manufacturer (JDM) partners, and work closely with business and hardware teams to translate requirements into secure, high‑performance solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and document software requirements and high‑level architecture.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to select MCUs that balance performance, cost, and power.
• Participate in DFMEA processes to identify and mitigate early‑stage risks.
• Establish software safety and security requirements, including authentication, encryption, secure boot, OTA updates, and cloud communication.
• Size work packages, propose alternatives, and support stakeholder decision‑making.
• Mentor internal development teams and JDM suppliers, ensuring code quality and compliance.
• Integrate BLE/Wi‑Fi connectivity and secure cloud interfaces.
• Lead design reviews, oversee development progress, and continuously improve engineering practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of embedded software development experience, including requirements analysis, design, coding, and testing.
• Minimum 3 years in a software architect role.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in C and C++.
• Strong knowledge of UML, RTOS (real‑time operating systems), and embedded Linux.
• Deep understanding of MCU architecture and hardware/software co‑design.
• Experience with communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, MQTT, DIPC.
• Expertise in connectivity standards: Wi‑Fi, BLE, NFC.
• Practical knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, HTTPS) and OTA firmware updates.
• Familiarity with secure provisioning, authentication, encryption, and secure boot.
• Exposure to DFMEA, safety analysis, and system‑level risk assessment.
