Associate Professor in Composition and Creative Practice

About the role

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore seeks an experienced music professional to provide strategic academic and artistic leadership in composition, creative practice, and artistic research. The Associate Professor will help shape an integrated model of conservatory education that links creative practice, scholarly inquiry, teaching, and curriculum development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of Composition and Creative Practice as an integrated academic area, contributing to teaching, curriculum design, and strategic growth of the Conservatory.
• Advance an internationally recognised programme of creative practice through composition, artistic research, performances, recordings, publications and collaborations.
• Design, teach and continuously develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses that integrate creative practice, analytical inquiry and professional preparation.
• Provide strategic leadership in curriculum development, programme review and the integration of interdisciplinary learning.
• Develop regional and international artistic partnerships, especially strengthening connections between Southeast Asia and the global contemporary music community.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Composition, Artistic Research or a related field.
• Minimum ten years of successful teaching experience in a conservatory or university environment.
• Internationally recognised record as a composer‑scholar or creative practitioner with substantial creative work, publications, commissions and performances.
• Proven experience in academic leadership, curriculum design, programme review and institutional service.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor students and emerging artists across undergraduate, postgraduate and lifelong learning contexts.
