Backend Engineer - COMPASS Platform

About the role

Activate Interactive, a technology consultancy in Singapore, is recruiting a Backend Engineer for its COMPASS project, a strategic analytics platform for bus operations run by LTA. COMPASS consolidates data from fleet management systems, onboard devices and operational platforms, and is expanding with predictive maintenance and AI-enabled initiatives. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based at 1 Hampshire Road.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain the server-side logic, databases and APIs of the COMPASS platform, ensuring reliability, performance and security.
• Develop scalable microservices, distributed systems and integration components, and integrate with upstream and downstream systems and devices.
• Manage relational and non-relational databases, including schema design, query optimisation and data integrity.
• Build data processing, transformation and analytics services, and implement monitoring, logging and observability.
• Troubleshoot application and integration issues, and implement authentication, authorisation and security best practices.
• Work with frontend engineers, data teams and business stakeholders, and support testing, deployment and production operations.
• Write documented, testable code, take part in code reviews, keep technical documentation and join Agile ceremonies.

Required profile

• Experience in backend software development and enterprise-grade applications.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Python, Node.js or Java.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, message queues, event-driven architectures and system integration.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, enterprise architecture and secure coding.
• Experience deploying cloud-native applications on AWS, and familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines and Agile practices.
