Carpenter – Construction & Formwork Specialist

About the role

SBM Engineering & Construction is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join its construction team on Jurong Island. The role involves performing a variety of carpentry tasks across project sites, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general carpentry and construction works at project sites.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Measure, cut, shape, and install timber, plywood, and other materials.
• Construct and dismantle formwork for concrete works, including columns, beams, walls, and slabs.
• Install doors, window frames, ceilings, partitions, flooring, and other wooden fixtures.
• Repair and replace damaged carpentry structures and fittings.
• Operate and maintain carpentry hand tools and power tools safely.
• Ensure all work meets required quality and safety standards.
• Maintain good housekeeping and a safe work environment.
• Perform other ad‑hoc duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in construction, building, or engineering.
• Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings and measurements.
• Knowledge of formwork, timber works, and general construction practices.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual work on construction sites.
• Willingness to work onsite and adapt to project requirements.

Required skills

• Reading construction drawings and specifications.
• Formwork construction and dismantling.
• Timber and plywood cutting, shaping, and installation.
• Operating carpentry hand tools safely.
• Operating power tools safely.
