Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

You will build bespoke technical solutions and partner with machine‑learning teams to develop Chalk’s proprietary infrastructure. The role involves working directly with customers to design and implement efficient feature pipelines for domains such as healthcare, finance, and recommendation systems. This is an early‑employee, in‑person position at a high‑growth startup.

Key responsibilities

• Write code to implement Chalk technology for customers and prospects, integrating it into diverse environments.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering and Sales teams to gather requirements and design efficient feature pipelines for use‑cases such as cancer detection, fraud prevention, and product recommendation.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact during pre‑sales and post‑sales engagements, onboarding new customers and supporting existing ones.
• Recommend new products as customers’ businesses evolve and help interview and grow the Engineering team.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong technical background in building software or machine‑learning models.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Ability to collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, problem‑solving, storytelling, and analytical skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (or comparable experience).
