Preschool Library Assistant

About the role

The Preschool Library Assistant supports the daily operation of the preschool library, creating a welcoming and organized space that encourages a love of reading among young children. The role works closely with teachers, families, and the main school library to ensure resources are accessible and aligned with the curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day library operations, including borrowing and resource tracking.
• Supervise library users and maintain the physical appearance of the library.
• Collaborate with preschool teaching staff to align the collection with curriculum needs.
• Prepare themed collections and displays for topics, celebrations, languages, or learning areas.
• Maintain coordination with the main school library and provide support as needed.
• Contribute to wider school activities while upholding safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety standards.
• Shelve books and materials daily.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by senior management or the line manager.

Required profile

• Experience in a school or library environment is an advantage.
• Flexible and willing to support a range of library activities.
• Comfortable organizing, sorting, and maintaining collections of books and educational resources.
• Ability to follow schedules and manage daily routines efficiently.
• Warm, organised, proactive, and collaborative with strong communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and use library and digital systems (no prior experience required).
