Principal/Staff Software Engineer – Global E‑commerce Platform (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Principal or Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture, development and optimisation of a high‑traffic global e‑commerce platform. The role is fully remote and reports to the engineering leadership of a publicly listed technology leader operating in more than 50 countries.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain distributed backend systems that power order management, checkout, pricing and other core commerce services.
• Write and review production‑grade code, ensuring high quality, performance and reliability.
• Drive large‑scale, cross‑team initiatives and mentor senior engineers.
• Own feature lifecycles from requirement analysis through deployment, testing and production support.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.

Required profile

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale system projects.
• Strong hands‑on experience with cloud‑native applications on AWS.

Required skills

• Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Go or Python (Node.js experience highly valued).
• Experience with AWS services, ECS, Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of databases and messaging systems such as MySQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Familiarity with AI‑native tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code.
