Research Fellow (Sustainable Batteries)

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow to lead research on sustainable battery technologies, including aqueous batteries, solid-state batteries and other emerging systems. The Fellow will establish and lead the existing battery research team, expand its activities, and work with collaborators to advance materials development and mechanistic understanding. The role also involves building shared laboratory platforms, securing external research funding, mentoring junior researchers and publishing results.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the research and development of next-generation sustainable battery systems.
• Purchase, manage, maintain and service laboratory equipment.
• Prepare and contribute to grant applications and conference presentations.
• Produce high-quality research results published in top journals in materials science and energy.
• Supervise and mentor junior researchers, research engineers and postdocs.
• Engage with industrial and academic collaborators to move technologies from lab verification to pilot implementation.
• Contribute to shared laboratory platforms, seek external funding, coordinate projects and disseminate research outcomes.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
• Strong research background in electrochemical energy systems, with expertise in aqueous batteries, metal-air batteries or related technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary research projects.
• Excellent publication record and presentation experience at international conferences.
• Experience in project management and coordinating research across multiple workstreams.
