Resident Physician

About the role

The Resident Physician (including Senior Resident Physician) provides advanced clinical care, supervises ward operations, and mentors junior medical staff. This position requires a recognised postgraduate qualification and completion of the basic specialist training programme.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily ward activities, ensuring high‑quality patient care and clinical decision‑making.
• Teach and guide House Officers, Medical Officers and trainees in diagnostics and procedures.
• Handle all cold referrals, urgent referrals during night duty, and communicate complex cases to the on‑call consultant.
• Conduct night ward rounds, write and sign consultation referral letters, and compile Confidential Mortality Reports for the Medical Board.
• Represent the ward or hospital in medico‑legal hearings and coroner’s inquests.
• Participate in departmental rounds, teaching seminars, and case conferences.
• In surgical specialties, perform elective and emergency operations within permitted complexity and train Medical Officers in basic operative techniques.

Required profile

• Medical doctor who has completed basic specialist training and holds a recognised postgraduate qualification.
• Registered with the Singapore Medical Council.
• At least 1 year of housemanship and 3 years of medical officer experience.

Required skills

• Diagnostic and clinical management expertise.
• Proficiency in performing surgical procedures (for surgical disciplines).
• Ability to supervise and teach junior medical staff.
