About the role

The Science Lab Assistant supports teachers in preparing and delivering practical science lessons, ensuring a safe, clean, and well‑maintained laboratory environment within the school.

Key responsibilities

Prepare materials, apparatus and specimens for science lessons and annual practical tests; set up and test experimental equipment before classes.
Assist teachers during practical lessons, demonstrations and experiments, and dismantle and clean the laboratory afterwards, storing equipment properly.
Maintain cleanliness of laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas; wash glassware and equipment, and support pest control, ventilation and general upkeep.
Ensure safety compliance by keeping Safety Data Sheets, labeling chemicals correctly, and handling the storage, disposal of chemicals and biological waste safely.
Manage inventory by conducting stock‑takes, updating records, proposing procurement of science materials, receiving deliveries and maintaining living specimens such as plants and hydroponic systems.
