Software Engineer – Backend (User Squad)

About the role

Sephora SEA is looking for a Software Engineer to join the User Squad, building backend services that power a personalized ecommerce experience for 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop robust backend services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot, following clean and scalable distributed architecture principles.
• Deliver reliable user and loyalty experiences across the SEAO ecommerce platform.
• Build and maintain event‑driven integrations between microservices using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Implement personalized and localized features for users in multiple countries.
• Utilize AI‑assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience building production‑grade backend applications with Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Strong proficiency with relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and non‑relational (MongoDB) databases.
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem, including Hibernate, JDBC, Maven and Gradle.
• Experience with event streaming (Kafka) or message queuing (RabbitMQ).
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
• Experience working in cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
• Knowledge of frontend frameworks VueJS or NuxtJS is a strong plus.
