Security Analyst – Threat Detection

About the role

Google's Security Threat Detection team safeguards the operating environment for users and developers. As a Security Analyst you will hunt for anomalous activity, respond to security incidents, and help keep network and system defenses hardened against attacks.

Key responsibilities

• Manually hunt for anomalous activity at Alphabet scale.
• Escalate unusual incidents to Detection and Response teams.
• Lead response efforts for low‑severity incidents.
• Support response to medium and high‑severity incidents as directed.
• Analyze security alerts from SIEM and other external sources.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in cyber security or threat analysis.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in incident analysis, malware research, SOC or similar incident response.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, rotations and night shifts.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and multitask.
• Strong problem‑solving and investigative abilities.

Required skills

• Security+ certification or equivalent.
• Experience with coding or scripting for automation.
• Proficiency with SIEM platforms.
• Experience analyzing, triaging and remediating security incidents.
• Knowledge of common attacker tactics, tools and techniques.
