Data Center Technician, Server Operations

About the role

Google's Hardware Operations team is seeking a Data Center Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and software in a high‑performance data center environment. You will work hands‑on with servers, networking equipment, and related infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation of Google's services.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy and operate new data‑center infrastructure across projects.
• Install, configure, and test servers, racks, routers, switches, and networking protocols.
• Perform component‑level repairs and troubleshooting on hardware and operating systems.
• Report issues, follow data‑center procedures, and contribute to incident resolution.
• Participate in or lead small project teams for larger installations and develop contingency plans.

Required profile

• Current right to work in Singapore without visa sponsorship.
• Ability to lift/move 50 lb (23 kg) and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and pulling.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
• 2 + years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, server hardware, or networking protocols.

Required skills

• Assembly of mechanical or electrical systems and component‑level repairs.
• Troubleshooting of operating systems (Linux/Unix) and server hardware.
• Knowledge of networking protocols and equipment (routers, switches, hubs, bridges).
• Experience with Linux distributions (Red Hat, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.) and Unix variants (Solaris, AIX, BSD).
