Alteration Specialist – Retail Fitting & Pinning Trainer

About the role

The Alteration Specialist will bridge the gap between Chanel's atelier craftsmanship and the retail floor, empowering sales teams with the technical knowledge needed to deliver an elevated fitting and pinning experience for every client.

Key responsibilities

• Educate retail staff on garment fit fundamentals, proportion, balance, ease and movement.
• Build awareness of body morphology and posture to improve fitting accuracy.
• Train teams in basic pinning techniques, ensuring correct pin placement, garment handling, and client comfort.
• Develop practical knowledge of fabrics – behaviour, drape, stretch, weight, delicacy and structure.
• Explain how garment construction and fabric choice affect alteration possibilities.
• Provide clear guidance on when to perform basic pinning and when to refer to Alterations specialists or Les Ateliers.
• Establish a shared fitting vocabulary and streamline hand‑over processes between Retail, Alterations and Les Ateliers.
• Deliver ongoing coaching, fitting clinics, visual guides and in‑the‑moment support.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of garment construction and fabric characteristics.
• Experience or keen interest in retail fitting, body morphology and client interaction.
• Ability to translate technical atelier knowledge into clear, practical training for retail colleagues.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Basic pinning techniques.
• Fabric behavior analysis (drape, stretch, weight, delicacy).
• Knowledge of garment construction and alteration limits.
