Assistant Vice President – Legal Counsel (Banking)

About the role

The Assistant Vice President, Legal Department will provide senior legal advice to the bank on credit, lending, litigation and other sensitive matters. This role supports the Head of Legal in shaping legal strategy across the Asia‑Pacific division.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on legal aspects of credit and lending, litigation and other high‑risk matters.
• Review and draft customer documentation, new product structures, financing agreements and other banking contracts.
• Maintain and improve standard templates, framework agreements and guidance notes.
• Negotiate and finalize NDAs, mandate letters, onboarding documents and other contracts on behalf of the bank.
• Monitor changes in law and regulations, coordinate with Compliance and internal stakeholders for implementation.
• Coordinate legal matters with APAC offices as required.
• Assist the Head of Legal in managing region‑wide initiatives and projects.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised university and admission to practice in a common‑law jurisdiction (e.g., Singapore, UK).
• Qualified lawyer with at least five years of post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department within financial services.
• Familiarity with credit and lending documentation and common banking products.
• Strong ability to prioritise work, deliver quickly and maintain high quality.
• Excellent communication, analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Independent judgement, risk‑balanced decision‑making and meticulous attention to detail.
