Communications Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Communications Manager to lead the strategic communications and public relations activities for the Town Council. The role involves shaping the PR strategy, managing stakeholder relationships, and overseeing a team of communications professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a public‑relations strategy to maintain and improve communication channels between the Town Council, residents, MPs and grassroots leaders.
• Lead a communications team of four officers/executives, providing corporate communication services.
• Manage resident and public queries, feedback and complaints, ensuring timely and effective responses.
• Strategise outreach initiatives to keep the community informed about estate works and council projects.
• Handle press inquiries and manage content across print and social media platforms.
• Coordinate community events and provide event‑management support to property teams.
• Organise large Town Council events (1,000‑2,000 participants) and smaller private events (100‑200 participants).
• Collaborate closely with MPs, grassroots organisations and government agencies to enhance the council’s image.
• Attend site meetings, town‑hall sessions and other relevant community gatherings.
• Liaise with agencies on PR perspectives for cross‑agency projects and devise case‑specific PR approaches.
• Perform any additional ad‑hoc duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• Degree in Mass Communications or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in public relations or corporate communications.
• Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Positive attitude with the capacity to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities.
• Experience in digital content creation.
• Team‑player mindset.
