Data Center Technician

About the role

The Data Center Technician is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, storage, and network equipment within a data‑center environment. The role ensures hardware reliability, supports installations and moves, and collaborates with vendors and operations teams to keep the facility running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Perform weekly sweeps of server and storage equipment, detecting hardware and network connectivity issues.
• Collect and analyse IPMI‑SEL data and vendor‑specific management logs.
• Diagnose connectivity problems, including network transceiver and optical fiber signal strength issues.
• Open and manage support cases with vendors such as HPE, Dell, and IX.
• Coordinate break‑and‑fix activities, escort vendor contractors, and oversee RMA processes for components.
• Provide hardware support for installations, moves, additions, and changes.
• Decommission IT equipment and conduct regular physical inspections of the data‑center facilities.
• Maintain inventory records, perform cycle counts, and update structured cabling documentation.
• Monitor capacity metrics for space, power, cooling, and patch‑panel availability.
• Follow incident and change management processes and submit regular activity reports.

Required profile

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an enterprise data‑center environment.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Fluent in English and a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel up to 25 % of the time.

Required skills

• CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) – preferred.
• CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) – preferred.
• Proficiency with IPMI and server hardware troubleshooting.
• Experience diagnosing Ethernet (RJ45) and fiber (LC/MPO) connectivity issues.
• Knowledge of structured cabling, patch panels, and data‑center best practices.
