Financial Controller – Family Office

About the role

A privately held investment office is looking for an experienced and highly discreet Financial Controller to lead finance and accounting across a portfolio of companies, trusts and investment vehicles. The role combines hands‑on accounting, consolidation, treasury and tax compliance with the production of clear, decision‑useful reports for senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and consolidated management reports for multiple entities.
• Manage group consolidation, including intercompany reconciliations, adjustments, eliminations and variance analysis.
• Maintain complete accounting records in Xero – journals, accruals, pre‑payments, AP/AR, fixed assets and bank/FX reconciliations.
• Record and reconcile investment activity across listed securities, private equity, real estate and cash instruments.
• Produce portfolio and management reporting on performance, asset allocation, net worth, liquidity and FX exposure.
• Monitor cash positions, funding needs and prepare cash‑flow forecasts for operating and investment obligations.
• Oversee foreign‑exchange accounting, exposure monitoring and reporting of realised/unrealised gains.
• Coordinate intercompany funding, payment approvals and treasury arrangements.
• Lead the annual audit process and manage tax, GST, statutory and regulatory filings with external advisors.
• Support tax, accounting and structuring considerations for new investments and cross‑border transactions.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior accountant in a multi‑entity environment.
• High level of discretion and attention to detail.
• Strong technical accounting capability and ability to translate complex financial data into clear reports.
• Experience working with senior stakeholders and senior management.
