Handback Engineer

About the role

The Handback Engineer will lead the inspection, testing and certification of railway trackwork after renewal or maintenance activities across Singapore. You will ensure that all handback activities meet safety standards and are ready for safe train operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate track handback activities following railway trackwork renewal, maintenance and related works.
• Inspect completed trackwork and verify that required inspections and testing are satisfactorily completed before handback.
• Assess track conditions to confirm safety and fitness for intended railway operation.
• Identify defects, non‑conformities or safety concerns and coordinate rectification with relevant teams.
• Certify completed trackwork and confirm readiness for train operations after each shift.
• Attend operator toolbox meetings and communicate handback status, safety matters and outstanding issues.
• Maintain accurate inspection, testing, handback and certification records.
• Collaborate closely with Trackwork, Engineering, Construction, Safety and Operations teams.
• Support railway possession, night works and other trackwork activities requiring handback inspection and certification.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Handback Engineer in railway trackwork renewal, preferably in metro operations.
• Recognised Handback Engineer qualification/certification.
• Valid UK Network Rail Handback Engineer re‑qualification/re‑certification, competent for line speeds up to 90 km/h.
• Experience with railway trackwork, possession and handback activities.
• Experience on LTA railway projects is an advantage.
