Head of Design – Data Centre Engineering

About the role

The Head of Design leads the engineering design function for data centre projects, overseeing MEP and CSA infrastructure design across new‑build, retrofit and expansion initiatives. This senior position shapes design standards, drives innovation and ensures reliable, efficient and scalable facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end design from concept through detailed design, construction support and commissioning handover.
• Own and continuously improve design standards, specifications and basis‑of‑design documents.
• Review and approve designs, calculations and drawings from internal teams or external consultants.
• Drive design optimisation for energy efficiency, reliability, modularity and build speed while balancing cost.
• Evaluate and select power and cooling technologies, including AI‑driven high‑density rack cooling.
• Lead value‑engineering exercises and vendor equipment selection.
• Coordinate with project delivery, client, consultant, contractor and regulatory teams.
• Manage design timelines, budgets and deliverables across multiple sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Master's a plus).
• Professional Engineer (PE) licence or equivalent chartered status preferred.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably in data centre or high‑tech facilities.
• Proven experience leading design teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
