Junior Accountant (Operations & Finance)

About the role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven junior accounting or business operations professional to join AGEM Bio as one of its first finance hires. Reporting directly to a Fractional CFO, you will gain structured mentorship and develop toward a senior finance leadership role as the company scales. The position blends core accounting duties with operational responsibilities such as procurement, inventory management, and HR administration.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in the cloud accounting system (Xero or equivalent).
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including preparation and issuance of invoices to customers, agents and partners.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, bank reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Support GST filing and liaise with the outsourced accounting partner on tax submissions and statutory compliance.
• Prepare year‑end audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
• Assist in developing and documenting finance SOPs and internal policies under the CFO’s direction.
• Maintain proper filing and archival of all financial records and contracts.
• Manage purchase orders and coordinate procurement of laboratory raw materials, reagents and consumables with scientific staff.
• Maintain inventory records, assist in periodic stock counts and flag reorder thresholds.
• Liaise with external suppliers and agents on pricing, delivery timelines and invoice reconciliation.
• Monitor purchase orders against approved budgets and escalate variances to the CFO.
• Support the set‑up and maintenance of procurement SOPs and supplier records.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or 0‑2 years of experience in accounting, finance or related business operations.
• Comfortable working in an early‑stage biotech environment that combines scientific rigor with lean startup pragmatism.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with scientific staff, suppliers and external partners.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn under mentorship.
