Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel will support all legal and regulatory matters for Liberty Singapore, reporting to the Co‑Heads of Legal Singapore. This position sits within the Legal team of Liberty International Insurance APAC and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance and providing strategic legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage regulatory and legal issues related to insurance and reinsurance, including contract review and policy wordings.
• Provide corporate and commercial advisory services, draft, negotiate and approve agreements and legal reports.
• Oversee corporate litigation, dispute management and resolution.
• Advise on local civil, criminal, outsourcing and data protection matters and monitor legal developments.
• Maintain a legal library, disseminate information efficiently, and support intellectual property oversight.
• Maintain licences, manage regulator relationships, and develop a panel of external counsel.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and collaborate with internal and external counsel on insurance regulation, employment, IT, real estate and compliance matters.

Required profile

• Singapore‑qualified lawyer with 3‑5 years post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house.
• Strong analytical, legal writing and communication abilities.
• Proven capacity to explain complex legal issues clearly.
• Professional, proactive attitude with the ability to build trust with senior management and external stakeholders.
• Business acumen and client‑service mindset.
