Mechanical Engineer, Debug

About the role

Google’s Debug Project is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop automated systems for mosquito‑borne disease control. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, software engineers and automation experts to create, test and launch innovative hardware solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build electromechanical automation systems using servo, pneumatic, sensor and drive components.
• Lead the full product lifecycle from requirement definition, prototype validation to production launch.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for science, software and operations teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with end‑users to iterate designs, test prototypes and ensure compliance with specifications.
• Analyze equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and develop multi‑year roadmaps for process improvement.
• Perform engineering calculations and generate detailed layouts using CAD, FMEA and DFA tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related field (or equivalent experience).
• At least 3 years of experience designing plastic or metal components, assemblies, PCBs or flex circuits.
• Proficiency with 3D MCAD tools such as NX, Creo or SolidWorks.
• Experience with automated or robotic systems, industrial pneumatics and sensor integration.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
