Principal Solution Architect

About the role

The Principal Solution Architect provides organisation‑wide technology and architecture leadership, turning business and executive priorities into scalable technology strategies, architecture blueprints and engineering capabilities. This role defines the architectural direction and engineering foundations needed to deliver secure, high‑performing software across cloud and on‑premises environments.

Key responsibilities

• Translate executive and business objectives into multi‑year technology and architecture roadmaps.
• Define organisation‑wide architecture principles, reference architectures and software blueprints for cloud, private cloud and on‑premises environments.
• Ensure architectures support scalability, modularity, performance, resilience, security and long‑term maintainability.
• Establish decision frameworks that guide technology choices based on strategic intent and measurable trade‑offs.
• Serve as the senior architectural authority for strategic, high‑complexity initiatives, reviewing and approving major technology decisions.
• Define and institutionalise software engineering standards, governance processes and best‑practice ways of working.
• Drive adoption of modern Agile, DevSecOps and engineering practices across development teams.
• Develop reusable software frameworks, common components and architecture patterns that accelerate product and project delivery.
• Build and mature the organisation’s in‑house software engineering capability, developing architects and engineers while reducing reliance on external delivery.

• Proven ability to provide organisation‑wide technology and architecture leadership.
• Experience establishing architectural direction and engineering foundations for secure, scalable software.
• Track record shaping engineering practices, standards and governance mechanisms.
• Capability to develop and mentor architects and engineers, reducing external dependency.
• Strong collaboration skills with business and technology stakeholders to translate complex needs into sustainable solutions.
