Senior Software Engineer – Automation & Middle Office Transformation

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to drive the automation and transformation of our Middle Office function. You will work closely with analysts and business stakeholders to design, build, and modernise systems that enhance scalability, data validation, and analytical capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Automate and scale processes such as data validation and P&L attribution using cloud and AI technologies.
• Value financial and physical energy transactions, calculate Mark‑to‑Market, P&L, and market risk metrics (e.g., VaR).
• Design data platforms, APIs, and libraries for efficient market data access.
• Redesign ETL pipelines to align with long‑term architectural strategy.
• Modernise existing Excel‑based models and Python applications into robust, cloud‑native solutions.
• Provide third‑line production support and ensure proper documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to AI‑driven initiatives and align solutions with enterprise architecture, especially Microsoft‑based cloud services.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of business‑facing development experience, preferably in commodity trading or a leading tech firm.
• Strong focus on clean, modular, and maintainable code.
• Deep understanding of trading workflows and end‑to‑end transaction lifecycles.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (C#, Java, Go, Rust).
• Experience with Python and Excel for analytics.
• Solid knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
• Database design expertise (SQL and NoSQL) and data modelling.
• System design skills: distributed systems, messaging, microservices, REST/RPC, CQRS, event sourcing, n‑tier architecture.
• Understanding of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
