Software Engineer, Desktop

About the role

You will own the behavior of our AI‑enhanced desktop application, ensuring reliability, performance, and real‑time responsiveness for millions of everyday users. The role focuses on building and maintaining cross‑platform desktop software that integrates AI‑driven assistance while delivering a smooth user experience on macOS and Windows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cross‑platform desktop applications using Electron.
• Create responsive, scalable UIs for real‑time collaboration with React or similar frameworks.
• Implement desktop‑specific features such as file system access, native notifications, auto‑updates, and deep linking.
• Integrate AI‑powered chat and assistance features via backend APIs.
• Optimize startup time, memory usage, and overall runtime performance.
• Profile and reduce Electron overhead, manage large local state and message history.
• Ensure smooth real‑time updates (messages, typing indicators, presence) and stability across macOS and Windows.

Required profile

• Proven software engineering experience with production‑grade applications.
• Hands‑on experience building Electron applications.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with React or comparable UI frameworks.
• Solid understanding of desktop application lifecycle and IPC communication.
• Familiarity with local storage solutions such as SQLite, IndexedDB, and file system operations.
• Experience with WebSockets or other real‑time transport mechanisms.
• Strong debugging and performance profiling skills.
