Software Engineer – Web Search & AI

About the role

Rakuten Group is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Web Search Group. You will help design, develop, and enhance web applications and AI‑powered search experiences that serve millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable full‑stack web applications using Java, Spring Boot and React.
• Build backend REST APIs and micro‑services with Spring Boot and related Java technologies.
• Create responsive, maintainable front‑end interfaces with React, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern UI practices.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment and production support.
• Design database solutions using relational databases and NoSQL/KVS technologies.
• Write clean, testable, efficient code and develop unit, integration and API tests.
• Engage in code reviews, technical discussions and architecture/design reviews.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, ML engineers and other teams to deliver AI‑powered features.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and provide first‑level production support for applications and services.
