Web Engineer – Build Scalable User Interfaces

About the role

Rakuten Viki’s Web Team is seeking an Associate Engineer/Engineer, Web to design, build, and maintain high‑performance user interfaces for viki.com and other web properties. You will work in a fast‑paced, global environment delivering React‑based components, streaming features, and internal developer tools that impact tens of millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain responsive, performant UI components and a reusable internal React library.
• Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and engineering peers to turn specifications into functional features.
• Ensure cross‑browser and multi‑platform compatibility while keeping code bug‑free.
• Diagnose and prevent web performance issues to deliver a seamless user experience.
• Participate in code reviews and team meetings to share best practices in web performance and developer efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 1–4 years of experience building web applications; fresh graduates are welcome.
• Strong understanding of semantic HTML, CSS, core web and browser concepts.
• Solid fundamentals in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with ReactJS, Svelte, or another modern JavaScript framework; knowledge of NextJS and SvelteKit is a plus.
• Experience writing automated end‑to‑end tests.
