Construction Quality Explosive Environment Inspector

About the role

The Construction Quality Explosive Environment Inspector will oversee the construction phase of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit at a shipyard. The role ensures that all equipment, structures and installations meet ATEX/IECEx safety standards for explosive atmospheres and that appropriate protective measures are applied throughout the build.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and assess hazardous‑area zones during construction to verify correct classification and protective measures.
• Ensure installation of explosion‑proof electrical equipment, wiring, instrumentation and flame‑proof enclosures.
• Validate use of intrinsically safe equipment, flame arresters, pressure‑relief systems and ventilation as per design requirements.
• Maintain detailed inspection records, report non‑conformances and coordinate corrective actions with the Construction Ex Lead and engineering teams.
• Conduct regular safety audits and promote a safety‑first culture on‑site.

Required profile

• Diploma in Safety, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Mandatory certification in explosive‑atmosphere standards (ATEX, IECEx, NEC or equivalent).
• Experience on FPSO or offshore construction projects is highly desirable.
• Proven background in safety inspection and quality control within hazardous‑area environments.
