Data Engineering Associate Engineer

About the role

Rakuten Viki is looking for a motivated Data Engineering Associate Engineer to join its Singapore team. You will help build and maintain scalable data pipelines that power our global streaming platform, enabling millions of viewers to discover Asian entertainment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable data pipelines for ingestion, processing, storage, and consumption.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on internal and external data systems to answer business questions.
• Improve existing applications and workflows for correctness, performance, SLA compliance, and architectural integrity.
• Apply best data‑engineering practices: clean code, automation testing, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure high standards of code quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 1‑4 years of experience in data, backend, SRE, or platform engineering (fresh graduates are welcome).
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Self‑starter attitude with a passion for continuous learning.
• Good working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

Required skills

• Python or Scala programming.
• Big‑data stack: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive (or equivalents).
• SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow (or equivalents).
• Experience with stream‑processing systems like Flink or Spark‑Streaming.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (any major cloud provider).
