Instrument Technician

About the role

The Instrument Technician will join a marine/offshore yard to install, maintain and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation systems. The role requires strict adherence to safety procedures and the ability to work on short notice.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and maintain electrical equipment, instruments and control systems.
• Read and interpret instrument drawings, loop diagrams, P&IDs, wiring schematics and electrical codes.
• Calibrate field sensors such as pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters.
• Perform repairs, replacements and troubleshooting of wiring, fixtures and equipment.
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and all yard HSE safety regulations.
• Support system start‑up, loop checking and functional testing.

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent (NITEC, Higher NITEC) in Instrumentation, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience in marine, offshore, shipyard, oil & gas or heavy‑industrial environments.
• Willingness to work at Tuas Boulevard Yard and commence work immediately.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PLC, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Process Shutdown (PSD), Process Control (PCS) and Fire & Gas (F&G) systems.
• Experience in instrument commissioning, loop checking, function testing and system start‑up.
• Ability to calibrate pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters using standard equipment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes, instrumentation standards and lockout/tagout procedures.
