Research Fellow – Biochemistry (Cardiometabolic Focus)

About the role

The National University of Singapore’s Department of Biochemistry seeks a Research Fellow to lead projects investigating molecular mechanisms of cardiometabolic diseases, including obesity, dyslipidaemia and atherosclerosis.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan and execute independent research projects on cardiometabolic disease, functional genomics and molecular/cellular biology.
• Perform and optimise experimental approaches such as CRISPR‑based gene perturbation, cell culture, biochemical assays, imaging, high‑throughput functional studies and multi‑omics technologies.
• Develop and validate cellular and animal models to study novel disease‑associated genes and pathways.
• Analyse, interpret and integrate genetic, genomic and functional data, and maintain comprehensive research records.
• Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals, present findings at seminars and conferences, and contribute to grant applications.
• Provide scientific guidance and training to junior researchers and collaborate with internal and external partners.

Required profile

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences or a closely related discipline.
• Strong research background in molecular and cellular biology and/or functional genomics, demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to design experiments independently, troubleshoot technical problems and critically analyse data.
• Highly motivated, organised and rigorous with effective project management skills.
