Associate Director, Tax

About the role

The APAC Tax Associate Director will join Balyasny Asset Management’s global tax department, reporting to the International Tax Director in London. This senior position oversees tax compliance, risk management and planning for the firm’s operations across the Asia‑Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review corporate income tax provisions and returns for trading funds and management entities, collaborating with internal finance teams and external advisors.
• Prepare and review indirect tax returns (VAT, GST, customs) for the same entities.
• Support the maintenance and implementation of global transfer‑pricing policies and related documentation.
• Assist local APAC business initiatives, respond to enquiries and manage tax audits.
• Handle global mobility queries, enforce related policies, and support the global payroll team on local wage‑sourcing and fringe‑benefit rules.
• Address APAC investment and trading‑related tax queries, ensuring consistency with the firm’s global tax approach.
• Monitor APAC and international tax developments and regulatory changes.
• Collaborate with the International Tax Director to resolve tax issues and manage the tax profiles of funds and management entities.
• Contribute to the design and documentation of internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure full tax compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial‑services tax, particularly with investment funds and management companies.
• Strong knowledge of corporate income tax, indirect taxes, transfer pricing, global mobility and payroll tax matters.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external advisors.
• Professional conduct when dealing with internal staff, clients, regulators and external partners.
• Excellent problem‑solving, prioritisation and multi‑tasking abilities.
• Demonstrated reliability, high‑quality work standards and meticulous attention to detail.
