Cost Controller

About the role

The Cost Controller will monitor, analyse and optimise operating costs for a portfolio of vessels managed by a leading shipowner in Singapore. You will act as a key business partner to operational teams, providing clear financial insights and challenging cost variances.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor detailed vessel operating costs (crew, maintenance, consumables, insurance, fuel, food, etc.) and ensure reliability of daily standard costs.
• Conduct granular variance analysis by vessel, cost item, breakdown and status.
• Review purchase order backlog, open orders and unmatched invoices with operational teams on a monthly basis.
• Track and analyse Variation Orders, ensuring accurate contract and project recharges.
• Produce concise financial analyses to explain variances and support decision‑making.
• Challenge operational managers on financial performance and act as a solution‑oriented partner.
• Participate in management reviews and assist in budget arbitration preparation.
• Collaborate with accounting to record accruals in line with operational activity.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• 3–8 years of experience in operational controlling, preferably in maritime or related industry.
• Strong background in operational cost control and accounting.
• Proven ability to produce reporting and KPI dashboards.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
• Excellent analytical, organisational and business‑partnering capabilities.
