Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator

About the role

The Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator is responsible for continuously monitoring autonomous vehicle systems during test drives and ensuring safety through rapid response to any irregularities. This is a 1‑year contract position that requires high vigilance, strong communication, and the ability to take manual control when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor vehicle behaviour, system alerts, and surrounding environment throughout each test drive.
• Take manual control of the vehicle promptly if safety is at risk.
• Perform pre‑drive and post‑drive vehicle checks.
• Communicate with field teams and support staff to resolve operational issues.
• Document test results, performance data, and report anomalies to the technical team.
• Act as a first responder in case of vehicle malfunction.
• Carry out any ad‑hoc duties assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• Valid class 3 driver’s licence.
• Minimum three years of driving experience with a clean record.
• Willingness to undergo a driving‑skills assessment for manual intervention.
• Ability to stay focused for extended periods.
• Good communication and reporting abilities.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Required skills

• Defensive driving techniques (advantageous).
• Basic understanding of vehicle systems or autonomous technology (a plus).
