Digital Graphics Designer – Interactive News

About the role

The Straits Times interactive graphics team is seeking a creative Digital Graphics Designer to craft original digital experiences for our readers. You will work closely with journalists, developers, editors and the UX team to turn data and stories into compelling visual content.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with journalists and data‑visualisation developers to translate editorial and data requirements into visual designs.
• Design, illustrate and prototype data visualisations, visual stories and social‑media assets using a range of tools.
• Partner with the UX team to ensure interactive graphics are user‑friendly, responsive and accessible across devices.
• Document design processes, capture challenges and stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Conduct investigative research with journalists, including data sourcing, verification and interviews.
• Use statistics and data‑science tools for data parsing, scraping and wrangling.
• Manage workflow for data‑driven stories and test interactive graphics for performance and functionality.

Required profile

• Strong creative and artistic abilities with a keen eye for detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast‑paced newsroom.
• Interest in current events and familiarity with the news industry.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

• Figma
• Adobe Creative Cloud – Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects
• HTML & CSS
• JavaScript (including d3.js; WebGL and Svelte are a plus)
• 3D modelling and rendering software
• 2D illustration tools
• GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
• Augmented reality (AR) design (plus)
