Engineer – Design and Review Projects

About the role

The Engineer is responsible for designing, reviewing, and analyzing engineering assignments that range from major projects to smaller, less complex tasks. The role requires solid application of conventional engineering knowledge across civil, structural, naval, ocean, marine, mechanical, or electrical disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed engineering reviews of plans for compliance with rules, regulations, and contract commitments.
• Provide technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
• Resolve moderately complex design conflicts, material standards, and coordinate multidisciplinary activities.
• Propose innovative solutions and recommend changes to methods, procedures, or designs.
• Draft accurate reports, correspondence, and weekly billing statements.
• Communicate workload status to team members to ensure client needs are met.
• Implement and maintain ABS Quality System requirements after training.

Required profile

• B.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture, Ocean, Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (M.S. preferred).
• Minimum five years of related industry experience.
• Experience with international business, technical processes, and problem resolution.
• For hull‑focused candidates: exposure to Finite Element Method coursework or research.
• For machinery‑focused candidates: seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license.

Required skills

• Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., CAD, analysis tools).
• Knowledge of Finite Element Method (FEM).
• Familiarity with ABS Quality System requirements.
• Relevant professional engineering license (seagoing or chartered).
