Library Officer (1 Year Contract), Digital Library Services

About the role

SUPS is hiring a Library Officer on a 1-year contract to deliver digital library services. The holder performs administrative and operational duties that support the learning, teaching and research activities of the SUSS community.

Key responsibilities

• Run day-to-day operations such as opening and closing the physical library, shelving books, simple repairs and circulation tasks including fulfilling loan requests and reservations, renewals and returns.
• Handle service desk requests for loans and reservations and answer enquiries about collections, services, circulation, facilities and physical space.
• Manage inter-library loans, coordinate book collections, monitor external loans and keep loan records up to date.
• Keep library equipment in good working condition and maintain a tidy space with clear labels and signages.
• Maintain collections through deselection, disposal, stocktaking, shelf-reading and inventory management.
• Procure physical and electronic books: handle order requests, verify holdings and bibliographic information, place orders and process invoices.
• Assist with simple cataloguing and processing of library resources.
• Support administration by collecting and compiling collection data and usage statistics and monitoring the library email account.

Required profile

• Recognised diploma.
• Positive attitude and good customer service skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team, with good oral and written communication skills.
• Able to multi-task with good time management.
• Able to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and Sundays.
• Previous library experience is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
