Mechanical Engineer Intern

About the role

As a Mechanical Intern you will work on the design, production and testing of the mechanical systems that make up BeeX's flagship Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicle and upcoming projects. You will report to the Mechanical Lead and collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team, both in the workshop and at sea trials.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with design and fabrication of mechanical components, mechanisms and electronics housings in CAD.
• Assist with FEA simulation on design components for structural integrity and stress failure assessment.
• Draft 2D drawings for fabrication and assembly.
• Assemble and test designed mechanical components in the workshop and in real‑world environments, including sea trials.
• Gather user requirements and establish documentation and test procedures for mechanical quality control and regulatory compliance.

• Enjoy product design and constantly think of ways to improve it.
• Want to work in a fast‑paced start‑up environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with other sub‑teams.
• Positive learning mindset with ability to quickly absorb knowledge and apply it to challenges.

Required skills

• Proficient in SolidWorks and Autodesk or equivalent CAD design software.
• Experience with FEA simulation tools.
• Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as CNC, welding, sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding and composites (good to have).
