Research Engineer / Senior Research Engineer – Digital Humanities

About the role

The Asian Centre for Digital Cultures (ACDC) at CoHASS, NTU, is hiring two Research Engineer / Senior Research Engineer to support interdisciplinary research at the intersection of computation and the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Support CoHASS researchers in exploring and applying digital methods and tools, including coding, and empower principal investigators to integrate digital tools into their projects.
• Assist the ACDC methods lab lead in organising regular academic events and provide training in selected digital methods and tools.
• Develop and maintain web and mobile applications, as well as cloud services, to support research projects.
• Help with ethical scraping, collection, cleaning, and structuring of diverse qualitative and quantitative datasets.
• Develop and maintain the ACDC website and portal to showcase ongoing projects and outputs.
• Contribute to writing methods and technical sections of research proposals and publications.
• Define and manage best‑practice software design guidelines and oversee risk, scope, schedule and quality management.

Required profile

• A Master’s degree in computer science, data science, information science or digital humanities.
• Experience with social science, humanities or arts research methods.
• Demonstrated ability to provide high‑quality technical support to researchers, analyse problems and proactively improve services.
• Ability to learn new methods and software packages independently.
• Enthusiasm for exploring and learning new digital methods.

Required skills

• Python programming, including the Pandas library.
• Statistical or machine‑learning packages and access to cloud AI services.
• Experience with cloud services and environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Web and mobile application development.
• Open‑source development and agile software development practices.
